my mother stepped on a sharp object and shes diabetic, for ten days she drank antibiotics and Tylenol, but the wound spread and soon got infected. She is in the hospital right now and was told her wound has marza, i don't know if i spelled that right but i want to know what causes it and how is it treated. Thank you!
That is probably MRSA .That is a kind of resistant bacteria which needs long term treatment with some special antibiotics . One of the precautions long term diabetics need to take is appropriate foot care in terms of wearing closed foot ware and daily feet inspection .injuries need to be treated early .in this case anti biotic sneed to be given for atleast 2 weeks if it is a superficial infection .
