Hello, I m a 47 year old man with swollen lymph nodes on the left cervical jugular area and some node swelling in the left preauricular node (0.5mm). I noticed them about 2 months ago and have been to my internist and ENT. My internist gave me a 10 day course of augmentin. The preauricular node went down but did not resolve. One swollen node at the curve of my jaw line resolved. The jugular nodes are still swollen and ache sometimes. I don t recall any having any infections. After I finished the course of antibiotics, I went to my ENT and he decided to do an MRI. The radiologist report indicated no masses and no pathologically enlarged lymph nodes. That said, it’s been 7 weeks and my left pre-auricular node is still enlarged (approx. 0.5mm) as well as the left jugular nodes (size unknown but feels like a bit over a 1 cm). The nodes do not seem to have grown in size at all. The report also indicated some minimal edema in the left parotid. The pre-auricular node feels like it burns sometimes and all the nodes sometimes have a sharp pain that is brief in nature. As the MRI indicated there is no solid tumor, but I am concerned about indolent lymphomas and asked the ENT about this. Frankly, I at a loss as to what this could be. Can nodes stay reactive for months? Should I get a biopsy of the node? Is it likely that a slow growing lymphoma would present this way? Why would the radiologist report on the MRI not indicate the size of the nodes?
