General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Bleeding between periods is called 'inter-menstrual bleeding' oe 'metrorrhagia'.
It could be due to following causes:
1. Hormonal imbalance between estrogen and progesterone levels that regulate your cycle. You can evaluate this by getting your FSH and LH levels tested in the laboratory.
2. Intra-uterine devise like 'Coppet-T' for birth control, if it has been inserted in you.
3. Complications of pregnancy like miscarriages and ectopic pregnancy, provided, you have missed your periods.
4. Uterine fibroids or polyps, which are non cancerous growths in the uterus. This can be detected by per-speculum examination and by means of ultrasound scan of abdomen and pelvis.
5. Infection of the reproductive organs, which will invariably cause some symptoms.
6. Cancer of cervix, vagina, uterus and ovaries, which could be detected by means of symptoms and ultrasound scan.
Hope the information provided would be useful. Kindly consult Gynecologist and get evaluated and managed accordingly.
All the best.
