What Could Pasty And Thick Stools While On Laxatives Indicate?

I have been having constipation type issues for the last couple years now. Doctors have ruled it as that even though its never hard to go to the bathroom. It s more like just backed up.. However, this time seems a lot different. I was prescribed a laxative the last time it happened so I used it. I took it for a whole week without any movement so I stopped it. Now today I began going, however, it seems really pasty-like and thick, yet mushy. Is that from the laxative? Or should I be worried?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms are probably related to side effects of the laxative. There is nothing to be worried. I suggest to use daily probiotics. I also recommend to eat a fiber rich diet and drink a lot of liquids.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
