What Could Random Painful Knee Cracks Post Surgery Suggest?

Hi, about 9 months ago i had knee surgery to repair a large chunk of cartlidge that broke off and started scraping my acl, according to the doctor its repairded and good for many years. Lately my knee has been making loud and painful cracks at random times and is aching. what does this mean?
