Hello,
I have carefully read your query and this is my assessment.

Your baby boy has what is called Fever of Unknown Origin (FUO) which is a fever >100.4 F that lasts >8 days. I need more information. Did he get any antibiotics from 2 previous pediatricians? Any blood work? Is he teething? Did he have loose stool before, for how long?

I treat children with high fevers every day and if I was your son's pediatrician I would have thought of the 3 most common causes of FUO:
1. Infections, such as Pneumonia, Urinary tract infection, Viral infections, Gastroenteritis etc
2. Immunological or rheumatological conditions
3. Medications

In order to evaluate you son I would have done a good head to toe physical exam and advised you to do the following tests:

1. CBC (complete blood count with differential), BMP( basic metabolic panel) , ESR, C-reactive protein, liver function tests.
2. Urinalysis and urine culture
3. CXR (chest x-ray)
4. Stool Cultures

A diagnosis would have been made based on the results of these tests. And your son would be treated accordingly.

I hope this is helpful and I have answered your question. Please contact his pediatrician or send him to the ER when they can run all the above tests. I hope your son feels better soon.

Kind Regards,

Dr. Ledia Qatipi
