What Could Recurring Uncontrollable Itching In The Body Indicate?

She had a bout with mono about a year ago. Six months after she had mono she was awakened by an uncontrollable itching. No hives, skin rash, or anything that would indicate an external allergen. She had the itch on her lower legs and it lasted about 5 days. She was able to take Benadryl and that helped. It went away and then a few month later she had another episode. This time the itching was uncontrollable and she went to the ER. She was told that she had dermatographism. They gave her prednisone and that helped her get over that episode. She just had another episode and this time the itching was bad enough to another ER visit. Once again they prescribed prednisone but that seems to be not working as well. She has lost sleep and feels really tired. I was wondering if she should see an endocrinologist to check her thyroid for abnormal histamine release or an immunologist. This is an INTERNAL itching. From what I ve read online there are not too many Doctor s that know what to do and why this is happening. Could it be adrenal related. Your help would be appreciated. Could the mono trigger the immune response??

Hi,

I would suggest to use separate vessels while eating. This could be due to the so called EBV, that is epstein barr virus which is caused due to kissing and using glasses that others have used. I would suggest to use a separate glass. Also, try to avoid physical contact with people.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
