What Could Sharp Pain In Chest Of A Teenager Indicate?
My 15 year old son is having sharp chest pains on the right side. What could be the cause of this pain that has been developing over the past 6-7 hours? He is a very healthy boy and very active and fit. He doesn t recall any specific activity that would cause injury. It hurts most when he takes a deep breath and really makes an agonizing face when he twists. At rest, he seems to be okay. Doing a sit up took his breath away due to pain.
I Can understand your concern.. Your son is most likely suffering with Pleuritis - It is inflammation (swelling) of thin layers of tissue (Pleura) surrounding covering lungs. When pleura are inflamed they rub together and surrounding tissues causing intense pain. This usually is observed during deep breaths or exercise. It most likely is caused by infections (Either Bacterial or Viral). It is best to take your son to nearby clinic and test for infections by Blood Test and a simple Chest X Ray. Depending on infection Antibiotics & Anti-inflammatory medicines will be prescribed. In the mean time use some pain killers (Preferably Ibuprofen) to reduce pain.
Hope for your son's speedy recovery. Feel free to contact for further queries. Thank you for choosing HCM
