Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was told 2 yrs ago I needed a shoulder replacement. In the past year I have extremely painful upper arm muscles. This pain is not limited to the bicep area. I am 62 yr old female, quite sedentary due to needing a knee replacement. I am extremely arthritic which is just a vicious circle of pain for me....move to keep the joints looser but with a knee and a hip replacement already behind me and looking forward to the other knee and now the shoulder to be replaced, it hurts too much to move around much. I want to not replace the shoulder as its not a weight bearing joint but I also would like to know what this pain could possibly be. It s beginning to severely limit the use of my right arm. I don t know if it could be pinching nerves or the bone spur that has grown in the shoulder since rotator cuff repair surgery is shredding my muscles......I will be making apt with an orthopedic physician unless you think there would be a different specialty to see.
thank you for the question. If shoulder arthritis is fairly advance and you had a repair of rotator cuff as well, reverse shoulder arthroplasty may be a good choice instead of shoulder replacement. But since your pain is severe you must take tramadol100 mg BD and do hot fomentation and some pendular exercises of shoulder and few abduction/rotation exercises to build up some muscle power for better post operative results also.Take help of a physical therapist also
