My daughter is having a problem with her face. She is a 30+ African American female who is quite light skinned. At first, she was experiencing itching, redness, swelling and what looked like hives. I asked her what she had eaten or used on her face, in case it was an allergic reaction. We finally realized it was nothing she had eaten but it may have been a cream she used containing steroids that her son used for acne. Well, I told her to get some Benadryl to stop the itching and to used some Vaseline. Apparently the Benadryl helped so she went to a First Med to get some help. The Dr. suggested she see a dermatologist but her insurance requires a referral. Now the hives have gone and so has the itching but she says that her skin, eyelids and around her lips feel tight. I suggested she stop the Vaseline and get Aquaphor to use instead...it helped my lips tremendously when they were burned from the cold. I don t want to give her bad advice but what is a mother to do, she is so worried that she has destroyed her skin which has always been almost perfect.
