What Do Osteoma And Ischaemic Foci Mean In The Following CT Scan Report?
Hi, My mom age 57, CT scan dated 11/4/2015 shows : Findings: 1. small hypodensities are seen in (L) lentiform nucleas. 2. A bony outgrowth is seen from the inner table of (L) temporal bone. 3. Cerebellum is with normal tissue attenuation. 4. IV ventricle is normal. 5. Brainstem is normal.6.Supra tentorial ventricular system is normal. 7.Basal cisterns are free. 8.Cortical sulci are normal. Impression: Ischaemic foci - (L) lentiform nucleus. Osteoma - (L) temporal bone. My Questions: What does it mean. How serious is the stage right now. Treatment options. Thanks in advance. Radhika
The ischemic foci involving lentiform nucleus may be of active or chronic parenchymal lesion of the brain via vascular compromise in territory of the middle cerebral artery in usual instances. The osteoma growth from temporal bone is a benign condition and usually does not provoke any symptoms unless large in size, compress underlying structures or else. However, provision of associated symptoms are of paramount importance to guide accordingly for the relevance of the CT scan findings mentioned above.
