What Do Red Rashes On The Face Indicate?

My husband is 48 years old and wakes up at least once/twice a week with spontaneous scratch marks on his face. He keeps his fingernails short and they appear as long red scratches without any known trauma at all. They will fade after a day or so but then there will be another one appear somewhere else on his face. This is before shaving or any other morning routines. They are completely asymptomatic. He is very healthy except for bad knees for which he takes Celebrex 200 bid and topical Testosterone. I m doubting the Celebrex only because he only gets them on his face and he has been getting these for years - just seems like more in the past 6 months or so. Just wondering if there might be an underlying issue that needs to be addressed.
