Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have red spots, some small, some a little bigger on both legs and now on my arms. I have been using cortisone-10 and benedryl for itching. Woke up one morning and the spots started around the bottom of leg and now all over both legs and now showing up on arms. Could this be from bed bugs or a virus of some kind?
Red spots on arms and legs that are itchy and spreading can be due to allergy most probably, and in case if there are any other associated symptoms like fever, cold-like symptoms then it can be a viral infection.
So, first of all, a clinical examination and a blood test can be done to rule out the exact cause of the spreading itchy bumps. Accordingly, the treatment can be progressed. For now, a symptomatic treatment that is to control the symptoms can be done.
You can take anti-allergic medicine like Benadryl or Fexofenadine and along with it do cool compresses over the bumps. Apply steroid based ointment like Betamethasone as it helps in reducing itching, inflammation and bumps. Avoid scratching as it can cause infection and spreading of pain, and inflammation.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
