What Do Redness And Sensitivity Of The Tongue Indicate?
Hello I've been chewing tobacco for about 5-6 months now and just yesterday I found on the right (side) of my tongue what appears to be a tastebuds that's really red and sensitive ? I know I've had this before even when I wasn't chewing tobacco but I just wanted to make sure it's not anything cancerous ?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain redness and sensitivity taste buds with a history of tobacco chewing seems to be either trauma to the tongue caused due to continuous irritation of tongue with tobacco while it can also be due to burning with hot fluids, chemical injury like concentrated, mouthwash solution, sharp tips of teeth rubbing against the tongue, tongue bite etc..
Although it does not seems to be cancerous but I would suggest you to stop chewing tobacco as it can cause Oral cancer.. You can go for Nicotine Replacement therapy like nicotine chewing gums and skin patches..
As of now you can apply numbing gel containing Lignocaine over the sore are on tongue, do cool compresses over it, take Vitamin B complex supplements and avoid spicy foods..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
