What Do Rough Patches In The Inner Cheeks Indicate?
I have slightly rough patches on my inner cheeks. Went to urgent care and doctor prescribed me fluconzole 150mg and symptoms of not gone away. He said it was a yeast infection. Any idea what these painless patches could be. At this point the are annoying to my tongue and bringing anxiety. Also, I am HIV negative. And input would help. Also I do smoke. Thanks.
Slightly rough patches on the inside of the cheeks can be due to causes like hyperkeratosis that occurs due to excessive keratin deposits over the mucosa as a protective phenomena due to causes like smoking, cheek biting, tobacco chewing etc.
It can also be due to Leukoplakia that is also a hyperkeratosis condition that can be associated with cellular dysplasia..
So if the anti fungal medicine is not helping then you ca consult an Oral Surgeon and get evaluated and if there is any doubt you can be advised biopsy of the area for further diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..
Please send images of the patches so that I can view it and advise you more appropriately..
Hope this helps..
Regards..
