What Do Severe Pain And Tingling Sensation In The Left Foot Indicate?

Hi. When sometimes I wake in the middle of the night with an excruciating pain in my left foot only and it feels like electric shock. It goes away after I stand and walk around on the left leg for awhile. I have arthritis - could this be what s causing the pain? During the day, at work at my desk sitting I m fine - it only happens at night.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Severe foot pain can result from many causes including Arthritis and vascular disorders. So, you need to do the following:

1- Full clinical assessment including examining your leg for signs of infection, swelling, and other abnormal changes.
2- X-ray of your foot.
3- Doppler study of your lower limb.
4- Complete blood count.
5- Your doctor may perform other tests according to the findings.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
