What Do Spreading Hives On Body After Surgery Suggest?

I had surgery 4 days ago had a lot of issues with recovery especially urinary retention and retention of the gas from surgery. I had to spend 2 extra days in the hospital and when I finally got home yesterday I began to break out in hives and they are spreading. I have used zyrtec and cortisone cream to no avail. I Am a nurse I don t understand this.

Hello

First, you have not mentioned what type of surgery which is very important information and you know this is relevant.

Hives seen post-op are usually a reaction to the medications given, introduction of a new diet, intolerance or a side effect of the surgery conducted. Please speak to your surgeon about the same. Also, check if anti-coagulants were administer as they could also be the cause.
