Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Do Sudden Drop Of Cholesterol Levels Indicate?
I am a 52 year old woman. All of my adult life my cholesterol has hovered around 200. I do take simvastatin and have for years. Today my cholesterol was 150. It seems odd that it would drop like that . I do not have a copy of the lab report but my doctor assured me the rest of the blood panel results were normal and though she agreed it was odd, she didn t see any reason for concern. My weight is 144, up a few pounds since my check up six months ago.
It's not a very significant drop. Cholesterol is subjected to change by diet, exercises, drug. So fall of 50 over a period of months is not worrisome, I think. Also, there may be lab variation in the reports. Any way don't worry, and follow healthy lifestyle like avoiding fatty, oily and high calorie diet. Have low salt diet and monitor blood pressure regularly.
Regular exercises like brisk walking, jogging according your capacity at least 30 min a day and 5 days a week. Eat lots of green leafy vegetables, fruits, fish once or twice a week, avoid meat. Avoid smoking and alcohol if any. There shouldn't abdominal fat deposition or obesity. Get your sugars tested once if not done.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Sagar Makode
