What Do The Presence Of Anisocytosis Poikilocytosis Elliptical Cells And Tear Drop Cells In A Blood Test Report Suggest?
Patient with off and on fever for 3 months with all reports clear. Recently we repeated CBC and find a report of anisocytosis poikilocytosis elliptical cells and tear drop cells. Cause? Hb 12.8 all cell counts in normal range. No other details in report. Can you suggest us what to do for correct diagnosis.
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic. I can understand your concern. I have gone through the report you have mentioned. Anisocytosis, poikilocytosis, elliptical cells etc are abnormal shape and size of RBCs. Tear drop cells are RBCs which are turned into tear shape. All these abnormal RBCs are seen with thalassemia . So get done serum electrophoresis and bone marrow biopsy for the diagnosis of thalassemia. Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wishing good health to your patient.Thanks.
