Hello,
I would like to suggest some more tests:
1. fasting Blood glucose
2. Thyroid function test (T3, T4, TSH)
3. Liver Function test
4. Kidney function test
Although, in fever, ketone get increased. As you asked the question, I am advising you to be on safe side as he is your dear child.
Ask him to do the followings:
Drink a lot of water or other unsweetened beverages.
Take extra
insulin if you have been taught how to do so (e.g., choosing insulin type, calculating dosage), otherwise wait for guidance from your
diabetes care team.
Every hour or two, test your blood glucose and urine ketone levels until the ketones are cleared and the glucose is coming down.
Do not exercise with elevated ketones.
Fasting, high protein-low
carbohydrate diets,
severe vomiting and frequent
diarrhea could likewise lead to increased ketone.
So, a balanced diet is advised. Keeping empty stomach must be avoided for long time.
Now
Give him good nutritious food and adequate fluid to intake (about 2 liters per day)
Follow the above general guidelines.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Dipan Samanta, General & Family Physician
