Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am in my first trimester (at 10 weeks to be precise) and I have an UTI. The lab reports show that I have a large growth in the number of Citrobacter Koseri. My doctor has suggested the consumption of Taxim O 200mg for 10 days. I am skeptical and would like a second opinion about its risks/safety for my child, please advise?
Taxim contains cefixime which is comparitively much safer than most other antibiotics used during pregnancy. It hasn't been reported to have any specific side effects but as it has been placed in Category B which means there is no specific risk but it should be used with caution and the patient should be monitored well enough whilst on it.
I would say it is fine to take it, although I would have prefered you taking it after the 1st trimester, but the requirement is no so let us go ahead with it.
Best wishes.
