Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My wife has faint trace of protein and pus cell of 2-3 /hpf. Is it ok or dangerous. Do we have to do anything to remove it or can we ignore. She had UTI and after Amicacin injcetion the result is now all ok but the pus cell is 2-3 and faint trace of protein is there.
Presence of protein in urine is known as proteinuria. Low levels of protein are normal. It is a substance that can be found during urine analysis. Sometimes high levels of protein in urine aren't abnormal also in case of younger people after exercise or during an illness like UTI or partially treated UTI. Again, trace amount of protein can be in urine during pregnancy as kidney is working hard to remove protein from body during that period. In case of persistent proteinuria, the underlying causes like kidney disease, DM, HTN etc should be excluded. Abstinence from sexual activities should be maintained during taking antibiotics for UTI. Otherwise, UTI may persist despite taking antibiotics. Cefixime is the treatment of choice in UTI along with abstinence from sexual activities.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
