What Do Vaginal Bleeding And Recurrent UTIs Indicate?

My mother is 80 yrs. Old. She experienced very slight vaginal bleeding a few days ago. Then again today. She has no other symptoms. She does tend to get recurring UTI s. She had a normal pap in 2012. She does wear thin pads daily in case of urinary leakage. She is on vacation for three months with my sister in another state. She has cipro with her incase she feels she has another UTI. Should we treat this as an emergency or can she just keep an eye out for other symptoms or worse bleeding?

Hi,

Please make sure by asking patient that blood comes in urine or from vagina. If there is presence of blood in urine and recurrent UTI is there then there is a chances of kidney or ureteric stone. In this case, I would advise you to undergo ultrasound KUB (Kidney, Urinary bladder). You have to consult urologist if there is a stone in kidney. if USG KUB is normal then its an alarming situation as post menopausal vaginal bleeding could be due to some major cause in female reproductive organ.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
