Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Do Valve Regurgitation And Low Normal Systolic Function In Left Ventricle Mean?
I have had back pain for a few years . I have been getting progressively short of breath . I am getting more immobile . Aug. 20-21 I had hives in my fingers . Aug 22 the hives left .Aug. 23 I had pain in chest ; felt like something was stuck in my neck area. Went to hospital ER / stayed over night and on Aug. 24 there was a lot of testing and when tests were over , I came home against their advice. Aug .25 I tried to call a heart doctor but everyone seems to be on vacation. I did finally hear from my family doctor office today. Last night Aug 28 , I had what feels like swollen glands in my neck , below and under jaw on right side. It is leaving now but still a little stiff and soreness. I am a diabetic and my sugars are spiking high and coming back down gradually. My blood pressure has also been high . They tell me that I have valve regurgitation (mild aortic, mild mitral, mild tricuspid, mild pulmonic ) with the left ventricle has low normal systolic function . The estimated ejection fraction is 50-55%.. I realize that this is a short description but can you tell me if I can wait for two to three weeks to see a cardiologist ? I am feeling fine now .
As per my clinical experience, the valve regurgitation would definitely hamper systolic function of left ventricle to certain extent as the left ventricle has to pump against high volume of end systolic point. As the ejection fraction is 50 - 55%, you can surely wait for a period of 2-3 weeks to see the cardiologist without any problems. Yes, the swollen glands in the neck suggest possible bacterial infection most likely which requires prescription of antibiotics for early resolution.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
