Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My male 89 yr old friend went to the hospital three days ago with sever pain in upper leg, buttoc, lower back pain. They diagnoised him as having sciatica. He is in a lot of pain and can hardly walk. What would you suggest that would help him? Does he need a pain mgmt doctor and an epidurmal?
Hi, He might require physiotherapy, short way diathermy and lumbar traction to relieve pressure of nerves causing sciatica. Go for back extension exercise regularly. This will give relief from his pain. Take NSAID medicine for pain. Give him Vitamin A and D supplements. Give him B1, B6, B12 shots or capsules. If he does not get reief then he might go for epidural injection or other surgical procedure. Avoid weight lifting. Ok and take care.
