What Do You Suggest For The Inability To Sleep With A History Of Lumbar Surgery And Head Injury With Seizures When On Fentanyl?

I'm 40M , history of lumbar surgery ( 10 total from lumbar fusions, failed hardware , ) head injury with seizures .Taking Fentanyl, Norco , Norontin, Elivil for pain and sleep .But I'm only able to sleep every 2-3 days . ( awake for 24-48 hours then exhausted I sleep 3-5 hours and the cycle repeats. What can I ask to help with my sleep. Pain is the root of my irration . Have taken Halcyon ( bad reaction) ambien ( no reaction can't sleep) and now elivil . Should the Dr. Up my pain meds or find me something to let me sleep. Please help . This has gone on since 1998. Auto accident .(w/ head injury. .but Dr has only helped with the lumbar problem not my seizures and super insomnia. Has now caused major depression.

Hello. I think you should have a consultation with a pain specialist. He or she might wean you from one of the medications you are taking. Sometimes the mix of pain medication can cause isnomnia or they might be lowering the effect of each other hence the pain control is not so good anymore. Have you also consulted with a neurologist regarding your seizures? What are your seizure medications? They can also cancel out the effect of the pain medication or vice versa. Regarding your major depression, are you also taking any anti-depressants for it?or just psychotherapy? All in all I think your doctors have to review all your medications.
