What Does CSF Is Preserved Dorsally. Moderate Bilateral C6 Foraminal Narrowing Is Evident Indicate?
I just had a MRI taken and they found C-5-C6 Moderate disc narrowing identified and there is a broad-based 2 mm disc bildge centered to the right of midline. This abuts the ventral aspect of the cord. CSF is preserved dorsally and the thecal sac measures 9.5 mm. There is a moderate degree of foraminal encroachment bilaterally. Impression: Broad-based right parasagittal disc buldge at c-5-c-6 which appears to abut theventral aspect of the cord. CSF is preserved dorsally. Moderate bilateral c6 foraminal narrowing is evident.
Wellcome to healthcaremagic In between two vertebrae, there is a cartilaginous disc which has a jelly like central nucleus pulposus within. When degenerative wear and tear occurs in disc, the nucleus pulpous comes out and causes indentation or in advanced stage compression of the spinal cord. In the centre of the spinal cord lies a circular cavity containing CSF. Also from the spinal cord nerve roots come out (exit) through a small openings (Foramina) in vertebra bilaterally which supply to various body parts. In your case, there is disc bulge at C5-C6 level disc bulge i.e. the disc in-between 5th and 6th cervical vertebra has undergone degenerative changes and the nucleus pulposus has come out causing indentation of the cord. This has lead to pressure on the foramina which is causing compression of exiting nerve root and this leads to pain and stiffness of the neck, upper arm. Treatment is a part of the disc is removed to release pressure which is called discectomy.
