What Does MRI Mild Diffuse T1 Hypointense Marrow Signal Through Out The Visualized Bones Suggest?

I have two herniated disc on my back. The MRI also stated the following: Mild Diffuse T1 Hypointense marrow signal through out the visualized bones. These findings are non-specific but may represent Hematopoietic Marrow or Metaboloic Disorder such as chronic anemia or sickle cell disease. I only have a little of anemia so I m not sure what this MRI means. Please advise.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It can be a sign of anemia and the bone marrow tries to produce more blood cells and it may be the reason for hyper intense signals in the MRI scan.

However MRI is not specific and you have to go for a peripheral smear and bone marrow examination to confirm the diagnosis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain
