PSA more than 4.0:
Person is definitely in a risk zone for
prostate cancer. And his proper check ups follow ups and medicines should start. He may develop cancer he may never develop it but having a positive family history ,you shouldn't take it casually and i am happy that you aren't.
PSA 4 to 10: as PSA increases from 4 to 5 to 6 and so on to 10 risk of developing cancer increases.
PSA above 10: Risk of developing cancer is near to 100% in our surgical terms we label it cancer of dangerous and we plan to remove such prostate even some surgeons do it at PSA 8.5 or 9 +-.
Suggestions:
At this time it may be nothing to worry about but don't take this issue casually discuss it well with your doctor .
PSA alone is not a good predictor of cancer there are some other factors like age family history size of prostate e-t-c are so worry not but keep an eye at it.
