What Does PSA Level Of 4.5 Indicate?

I am a 56 year old male with no history of prostate cancer in my family. Last year my psa level was 3,6. This year it was 4.5. The doctor put me on cipro. for 2 weeks at 2 pills a day then a retest in 3 weeks. to me 4.5 is border line. His nurse said slightly elevated. what is your thought.

Hello
Thank You for contacting HCM.
Welcome to Health Care Magic.
My name is Dr Muhammad Ahmad & i will look into your problem.

I have gone through your query and would try to help you in the best possible way.

I will try to make it simple for you not going into complex medical researches data and details

PSA more than 4.0:
Person is definitely in a risk zone for prostate cancer. And his proper check ups follow ups and medicines should start. He may develop cancer he may never develop it but having a positive family history ,you shouldn't take it casually and i am happy that you aren't.

PSA 4 to 10: as PSA increases from 4 to 5 to 6 and so on to 10 risk of developing cancer increases.

PSA above 10: Risk of developing cancer is near to 100% in our surgical terms we label it cancer of dangerous and we plan to remove such prostate even some surgeons do it at PSA 8.5 or 9 +-.

Suggestions:
At this time it may be nothing to worry about but don't take this issue casually discuss it well with your doctor .

PSA alone is not a good predictor of cancer there are some other factors like age family history size of prostate e-t-c are so worry not but keep an eye at it.

Hope this answers the question if you have follow up question hesistate not to ask it , Wish you health.
