What Does A PSA Level Of 5.5 Indicate?

My husband is seeing his urologist in 3 hours to discuss his PSA numbers. in 8-2015, the number was 3.66. in 12-2015, the number was 3.16. in June, 2016, the number has risen to 5.5. What is your opinion of why the big jump and next steps for him? Thank you for your help.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The PSA level is not high. We have to rule out possible causes like prostatic cancer. Consult a urologist and plan for a prostate biopsy to make a diagnosis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
