What Does A Brown Spot On The Vagina Indicate?

I have just had a biopsy on my vagina. My doctor found a round brown spot about 1/4" in diameter. There is no pain...and no bump or thickening. I am worried... and my doctor takes a week to get the results of my biopsy back. Can you tell me anything that will help my anxiety? I am 73 years old and in good health. Had a hysterectomy over 30 years ago. Thanks for any help you can give me.

It is very difficult to say how worried you should be without having seen the lesion. However, I can reassure you that the majority of these things, even at your age, are benign lesions. Especially if you have no history of abnormal pap smears in the past, the likelihood of vaginal cancer is extremely low. If your doctor did not tell you that it appeared suspicious, that is usually a good sign as well. I hope this was helpful, please let me know if you have any more questions.
