What Does A Giant Cervical Polyp Indicate After Pap Test?

At my last Pap test , my dr. found giant cervical polyp (about 3inches).. Polyp removed and biopsied. Soon after, the pap test came back with high grade abnornal cells. Went for colopscopy with biopsy of uterus and cervix.. In the meantime, the doctor who performed the biopsy of polyp has called me in for test results. I am an otherwise healthy 60 year old... Could this be cancer? (I live in a rural area and cannot get in until next week and they would not say anything on the phone ...I am soooo worried) ! CW

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

Your biopsy results need to be carefully assessed. Even if you are having a cancerous polyp it might still be in the early stages. As you are following up regularly with your doctor, there should not be any worry. When detected early, most conditions including cancers are treatable.
