What Does A Large Sac Containing No Fetus Mean?

hello doctor, i am 7 weeks and 2 days pregnant as per LMP and i tested positive twice. But when i did an ultrasound,it shows the big sac and no foetus inside. i started bleeding today.(like spotting). What should i do?. please suggest me. this is my first pregnancy.

Hi,
I Understand your concern.
You had pregnancy without fetus.. Because of fets is lost in early pregnancy while amniotic fluid sac / placenta keep on growing. It results in chemical pregnancy,as pregnancy hormones maintain to work. That is why, all pregnancy symptoms of pregnancy including pregnancy test are present. Diagnosis is by sonography.
* This chemical pregnancy automatically / it needs surgical removal.You have already started bleeding-that is for clearing the pregnancy. Please be in touch with your doctor. take her help if you have excessive bleeding/ prolonged bleeding/ any other complaint.
* This type of pregnancy occurs once in awhile. Special investigations needed only with repeated recurrence.
* Please don't worry, you can take following precaustions for next time,
- Wait for three regular menses ,
- both of you take folic acid5mg & vitamin E 200 mg daily in these 3 months
- visit your treating doctor & get a check up & investigations/ treatment if needful.
- Be positive.
