Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Does A Lump And Red Spot At The Site Of A Flu Shot?
I got the flu shot about 5 days ago and the following day I had a large lump and red spot (the size of a gold ball). It is still there, but it is getting small and itchy. 3 days ago I noticed when I was walking around that my left arm (side of the injection) got very heavy and weak. I could still move it but it was difficult...like when you sleep on your arm and it completely falls asleep (but not tingling). It was really weird but didn t happen again until the next day. Now the sensation comes and goes about every hour or two. Will it go away? Did they hit a nerve? What s wrong with me!?!
It is an inflammatory induration and it is quite common after intramuscular injection. Nothing much to worry and it will settle by itself without any definite treatment. You can apply icepacks for faster recovery.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
