What Does A Lump On The Tailbone Indicate?

DOCTORS, I have a knot under my skin beside my tailbone.!! It got infected back in 2013 before I had my son and errupted one while I was at work and made me very sick bc of all the infection bc it went straight to my blood stream. Idk whether it s a piladonial cyst or if it s from an ingrown hair that just keeps growing? It hasn t flared up since 2013, but it itches every now and again so I don t know whether to have surgery and have it removered or wait til it flares again and have it lanced?? I m a female!!!! 26

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I evaluated your query in depth. According to your narration it is most likely to be pilonidal sinus (needs clinical confirmation by the examination). Surgery is the only and best option to get it cured. Decide soon rather than waiting for flare up and ending in more issues. Temporarily can take analgesic for pain and antihistamine for itching.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Purva Patel
