Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My mother had blood and urine tests done on Thursdat. Today, on the evening of Mither s Day, the hospital called to tell her my mom must be treated with Zosyn because she has a multi drug resistant organism . What is that, is this like MRSA? Did she get tha at a health care facility when she gave blood?
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Multi-drug resistance organisms means that the organisms causing infection are resistant to usual group of antibiotics which are used in the first line. MRSA is methicillin resistant staph aureus, which means the organism is resistant to only methicillin (penicillin) group of drugs. Hence, such multi-drug resistance infections need to be treated with higher antibiotics. Kindly take the medication as advised by your treating doctor and do the necessary follow-up as suggested. Hope the information provided helps. All the best. Regards, Dr.Ashakiran.S., MBBS., MD.
