What Does A Painful And Swollen Bruise On The Ribs Indicate?

I noticed a dark purple, almost black, bruise on the right side near my ribs 3 days ago. It wasn t painful at first but now there s some pain and swelling. I don t remember getting hurt at all. I m not sure what it is and don t want to go to the doctor and it turn out to be nothing.

this bruise may be due to echymosis of blood vessels if you had trauma and may be due to bacterial or fungal infection


detailed answer


if you had no trauma we can role out echymosis but there is common cause of that i see in my clinic is bacterial infection of the skin leads to that bruise and you can use erythromycin local antibiotic...some times the cause is shingles but it is painful and itching and due to stress reactivation of varicella zoster virus ...if it is fungal infection you will feel it widened and mild itching and should take fluconazole cream for that
