What Does A Sudden Onset Of Severe Pain In The Sternum Suggest?

I am a 54 year old female. Last night I felt a sudden excruciating pain in the center between and slightly lower than my breasts. Like someone shoved a white hot pole, a little smaller than the size around of a large pill bottle, through the front of my body out the back. The pain radiated from that spot up to both sides of my jaw, strongest at the joints. But have also suffered from TMJ Disfunction since approximately the age of 17. The pain was so severe I found it difficult to breathe & could not talk. I do have Paroxysmal Supra Ventricular Tachycardia which I take Cartia XT Capsules 120mgs at bedtime. The pain lasted perhaps 3 min. & took about 10 min. to catch my breathe. Today my chest is very sore.

Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
By your history and description, possibility of musculoskeletal pain is more.
But since you are having PSVT (paroxysmal supra ventricular tachycardia), we should definitely rule out heart diseases first.
So consult doctor and get done blood pressure monitoring, ecg, 2d echo and stress test (trade mill test).
If all these are normal then no need to worry for heart diseases.
Musculoskeletal pain is more likely.
So avoid movements causing pain. Avoid bad postures in sleep. Avoid heavyweight lifting and strenuous exercise.
Take painkiller and muscle relaxant drugs.
Apply warm water pad on affected areas.
Don't worry, you will be alright with all these. But first rule out heart diseases.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
