What Does A Swollen Lymph Node On Neck Indicate?

I noticed a swollen lymph node on the left side on my neck, right below my jaw, in early December. I went to the walk-in clinic and the doctor said I have an ear infection, so she put me on an antibiotic for 10 days. The ear infection went away, but the lymph node was still swollen, so I went to my primary care doctor. He then put me on a different type of antibiobic for 10 more days in early January. I just finished my antibiotics 2 days ago and I still have the swollen/enlarged lymph node. I just went to the ENT doctor this morning and she said it's a superficial swollen lymph node and it's only pea size, so she isn't worried about it....but, I am worried about it. I am afraid it's cancer! I am very worried and scared.

Hi...
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns...

As per your complain as you have a complain of swollen lymph nodes just below the jaw line it seems to be swelling in submandibular lymph nodes and as you were diagnosed with ear infection there can be Reactionary Lymphadenitis secondary to ear infection..
Many a times the lymph nodes takes comparatively longer time to resolve as compared to the resolution of infection, therefore you can take another course of antibiotics and do warm compresses over the swollen lymph nodes..
If the lymph nodes shows signs of regression its fine otherwise a Biopsy has to be done to rule out the exact cause of swelling and treatment can be planned accordingly..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
