What Does A White Patch On The Jaw Of A Child Indicate?

My 3 year old grandson developed a white area along the jaw. Seems as if pressure was applied to a small area the blood left, but does not return. He woke up from a nap this way. There is no pain, was no trauma, not hot or cold. He was seen in the ER but unknown what problem is.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

First of all it's sad to know what your son had been going through lately.

Based on the history you have shared, he needs to be reviewed by an ENT specialist or orthodontics specialist as sometimes subcutaneous cysts or tracts may present with such signs like Ludwig angina etc.

Otherwise local skin infection may also cause the same but in either case, a proper examination is a must.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
