Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Why do I smell something burning and/or cigarette smoke for the last 2-3 days when there s nothing near me that would give off that smell? The best description that I can find of what I m experiencing is called Phantosmia. I m a 28 year old male who s physically fit and healthy. I don t have a history of seizures, nor does anyone in my family.
Changes in smelling sensation started in the last couple of days is due to: - upper respiratory infection (most probably virus) - exposure to fumes or polluted air recently
I advise to: - clean your nostrils carefully with warm water - use saline solution to clean
I'm sure it will go away in a few days. If not, get checked by ENT specialist first.
All the best.
