Dear doctor, My nephew was just diagnosed with anemia hypochromic microcytic anisopoikilocytosis. What does it mean? We are Asians. He is 13 years old but his size is like a second grader. He is very pale, especially his lips. I that curable and how? Thank you.
Hello and welcome to HCM, Microcytic hypochromic anemia is a type of anemia characterised by small sized red blood cells and these red blood cells are pale more than what is seen in health. Anemia is reduced capacity of red blood cells to deliver sufficient oxygen to the tissues. The red blood cells are graded into there types depending on the size. Microcytic are red blood cells which are small in size. Hypochromia is increase in the central pallor. Microcytic hypochromic anemia is most common type of anemia and is caused by deficiency of iron in the diet. In case of iron deficiency, iron supplements are given. Consult your doctor wit the report for further investigations and prescription of relevant medication.
