What Does Ascending Aortic Contour With Mild Aortic Dilation Indicate?

I just had my chest x-ray which says that there is slight prominence of the ascending aortic contour and they cannot exclude mild aortic dilatation. a follow-up Chest CT is advised for further assessment. What is this finding all about and what must I do? What could have caused this? Thanks doc! Recently, I have been coughing out phlegms in the mornings and have difficulty breathing that is why I had a chest x-ray taken.Would this have caused this?

Hello
Thanks for writing to HCM

Your X-ray report suggests slight prominence of the ascending aortic contour.
Generally it is due to aging, chronic hypertension etc.
It is important to rule out abnormal aortic dilatation which can lead to complications.
Exact diameter of aorta is only possible by CT Scan so,contrast CT Scan is advised to you.You should go for it so that proper treatment can be done at time.

Hope I have answered your question.
Take Care
