Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had a run around with Dr. Cardio said my HDL was high and my liver enzymes were up and had plaque in the carotid but won t give me a new statin until I see a gastro. I go to him he orders a million tests and a ultra sound of my liver. Results come back and nurse calls in the middle of my work day and told me I need a liver biopsy and my ANA was positive. But the Gastro wants you to see a rheumatologist. I asked after that rheum dr do I still need a bx.. Nurse said oh yes Call rheum dr and can not get in til Sept. Called back gastro to let them now I want to see the Dr to discuss my results and I was put on hold til their phone disconnected.. Can I wait all this time?

hi statins cannot be started in the patient with elevated or deranged liver enzymes as the damage can be aggravated if ANA is positive ,consultation with the rheumatologist is mandatory to rule out for immunological problems, as the treatment for these problems also require clearance from the liver, especially if steroids are planned. you can wait, but be sure to change your lifestyle till then please avoid stress, alcohol, smoking, high cholesterol foods, drugs which can further damage the liver. all the best take care
