What Does Blood In Phlegm Indicate?

i have been sick for the past week,coughing up mucus,severe cough at night time. i have been taking cold and allergy medication. i am a smoker as well. This afternoon when i started coughing there was blood present in the mucus i coughed up. There is no blood present in my nose. normally when i see blood it is also present in my nose. i assumed i am having allergy problems,but now im not so sure.

Dear Sir,
Coughing up blood is Hemoptysis. It is due to multiple reasons.As you said you are sick for a week with LRTI it might be the cause.history of Cigarette smoking can lead the same.Please do conault with Chest Physician and have X ray Chest.
