I am 48 years old. Recently I did my blood test and get the following results :
SGOT 46, SGPT 26, total Bilirubin 1.10, total Cholesterol 290, LDL 192 and sugar (fasting) 110.
I am feeling pain at upper abdomain occasionally.
I drink 2 - 3 times in a week.
Are these alarming?
Hello, I'll give you the best advice I can with the data you've provided. Your liver function tests are almost normal (perhaps a slight elevation of SGOT - depending on lab's normal range of values). Your LDL cholesterol is too high and needs intervention with diet, mild exercise and medication (a statin). Avoid foods that contain fat particularly saturated fat and check your total energy consumption in order to maintain a healthy body weight. I usually start patients like you with atorvastatin 20mg once every night. Your blood sugar is not normal as well. You need an oral glucose tolerance test done to rule out diabetes mellitus. You also need to do a repeat testing of SGOT, SGPT and also check ALP, gGT. Your epigastric pain could be due to your drinking habit but that's just an assumption. There is not enough data to say for sure. For example: is it a burning pain, does it appear after meals, how long does it last, does it radiate to the right shoulder or back etc Kind Regards!
