What Does Burning Sensation Around A Ganglion Cyst On The Foot Indicate?

I have an 2 and a 1/2 inch size ganglion cyst on the top of my foot that causes intense burning. It is right on a major nerve. My podiatrist has drained it twice and second time with little success. He says surgery is the best option. What do you think?
