In human body spine has 3 curvatures at three region. Normally in cervical region it is lordosis, in thoracic region it is kyphosis and in lumber region it is again lordosis. So pathological process can hamper this normal curvatures and cause symptoms. In your case your cervical spine instead of lordotic becomes kyphotic and causes root compression and pain in that segment. So you should apply cervical collar and follow your doctors advice.
