Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello my name is Eddie. I am 29 years of age 5 9 165 pounds and I just got my blood work back and My cholesterol was 235 and my LDH levels were 160 something. My family has heart disease, my father has had triple bypass and multiple stents. I do not want to go down that path what do you suggest? Thanks, Eddie.
Cholesterol, 235 mg/dl is borderline high and LDL (Low Density Lipoprotein), 160 mg/dl is high. People with high LDL levels, are more prone to develop heart diseases and stroke. Dietary advice and lifestyle modification may be the treatment of choice here. But, in case of positive family history of heart disease, starting of statins like atorvastatin, simvastatin or rosuvastatin will be a better choice for the prevention of developing heart diseases in the future. In presence of positive family history of heart disease, cholesterol level below 200 mg/dl, LDL below 100 mg/dl and raised level of HDL should be treated to target with the help of statin medication, healthy diets and daily exercise.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Zubayer Alam, General And Family Physician,
