Hi,I had a test recently and the result was as follow: Component     Standard Range     Your Value     Flag CHLAM & GC AMP SRCE           Cervical    CHLAMYDIA BY DNA PROBE     Neg     Neg    GONORRHOEAE BY DNA PROBE     Neg     Neg     Probetec is validated for cervical/vaginal pre-aliquoted ThinPrep, endocervical swabs, urethral swabs, and urine sources, only. Advise clinical correlation.I just wonder what advise clinical correlation mean ? Does it mean I have got something wrong ?

this result means that an infection called Chlamydia & Gonorrhoea by DNA probe test are negative. The words advise clinical correlation means that we should read and interpret this result along with clinical examination findings of the patient. It is a standard sort of sentence used my medical labs simply because we should not make an opinion just based on a lab test. Clinical diagnostic opinion require all information which means clinical history & examination along with lab results etc to make a meaningful interpretation. To put it in a humorous way we cannot always say that there is or isnt a cat in our house simply because we dont hear meow. For further understanding of lab test results you may read labtestsonline which is a free public information site about lab tests written in simple non medical language. Best regards.
